The Gastrointestinal tract is probably the largest conglomerate of organs in the human body. Till recently, GI pathologies fell under the domain of general surgery, but with rapid advances in technology, understanding and innovation, the superspecialty of Surgical Gastroenterology (or Gastrointestinal Surgery) was born just about a decade back. It is the most coveted discipline presently and enjoys the first position amongst the choice of general surgeons superspecialty aspirations. Very few institutions offer a structured training programme in this discipline and there is a cut throat competition for qualifying into an academic programme of it.
At the ‘Healing Touch Hospital, Jalandhar’, we have the privilege of having the first dedicated department of Surgical Gastroenterology in this region. The department excels in managing all the sub arms of this vast discipline namely—Esopahgo-Gastro-Duodenal system, Hepato-Pancreatico-Biliary system and Colo-Rectal system.
